Friday 10th October 2025 10:00 – 13:00 Autumn is the time to set the stage for next year’s cutting garden. In this practical workshop we’ll focus on everything you can do now to ensure a beautiful display of spring flowers, with a particular emphasis on getting ranunculus started successfully. Together we’ll head into the flower field to see what’s still in bloom, what can be sown in autumn, and how to prepare your beds so that they’re ready for strong growth when the season turns. During the workshop we’ll cover: – How to prepare, soak, and plant ranunculus corms for a strong spring crop – Maintaining ranunculus over the winter – Hardy annuals worth sowing now and how to protect young plants through winter – Preparing soil and beds for spring planting – Practical overwintering techniques, from fleece to mini tunnels – End-of-season tasks to tidy and protect your cutting garden – Tools and equipment that make preparation easier – Simple steps for reducing pest and disease problems ahead of next year You’ll leave with ranunculus corms and a collection of hardy annual seeds to plant at home, plus detailed printed guides full of our tried-and-tested advice. As always, there will be time for questions and discussion, and tea and homemade cake in the barn to round off the morning.
